Home care industry struggles to meet demand

Author: David Stallard

Whilst hospital bed shortages are commonplace throughout the country and the government's only option appears to be keeping people in their homes as long as possible, the shortage of qualified, experienced carers seems to go unnoticed.

Many home care service providers struggle to fill shifts and patients regularly go without services due to a lack of staff. One of the underlying issues appears to be the lack of support and fair treatment for carers and others working in this industry. Another issue is that of carers performing tasks above-and-beyond what would normally be required of them, tasks previously performed by nurses however due to a lack of resources, carers find themselves filling this role.

Many would agree that carers are under-paid (and some would say under-appreciated) for the conditions they find themselves in on a daily basis. The shortage of nurses and their pay disputes have been well-publicised but no mention is given to carers who perform an essential service to many of Australia's ageing population whilst being paid just a fraction of what nurses receive.

In light of these issues, Platinum Care, Perth's newest home care service provider, has been launched to help support the growing demand in the the aged care market.

“Our focus is on providing clients with a superior service, whilst rewarding employees & recognising excellence in the workplace – something sorely lacking in this industry” stated Platinum Care director, David Stallard. “The conditions carers currently work in are not in-line with the remuneration they are offered, which will have a long-term affect on the industry and the greater community if these issues aren't rectified in the short-term.”

Platinum Care provides assistance and support to those who need it to continue to live their lives independently. We provide home care services to the elderly, house-bound, the physically challenged and children and adults with special needs. Our commitment to providing clients with exceptional levels of service, along with our qualified, experienced staff means that Platinum Care has the resources to meet all of our clients' needs.

Platinum Care welcomes the opportunity to demonstrate our unswerving commitment to caring for our clients and our people.
